More needs to be done to protect homes from flooding
Please stay safe - it is really tough for residents in Datchet, Wraysbury and Old Windsor who are suffering from flooding.
So much credit to all the volunteers, some of whom I've been speaking to this afternoon who have literally been awake since Friday.
The community is really pulling together. That is heartening, but there is a sense of failure here: not enough has been done by local government, national government, or the Environment Agency since 2014. I've been clear that national government should be funding Channel 1 of the River Thames Scheme, but the real frustration is the simpler stuff, in the past the watercourses and flood and drainages ditches were dredged every five years.
I've been to the Colnbrook and it is silted up and full of fallen trees. There should be more holistic thinking and local people listened too, common sense utilised.
If you are affected by these issues and need help please do contact the Floodline service on 0345 988 1188. In an emergency always call 999.
