Jack provided the following update on this meeting:
"I’ve had a lot of queries and complaints recently about rail services into London Waterloo - particularly journey speeds from Ascot, Sunningdale and Virginia Water, as well as ongoing delays caused by level crossings at Datchet and Sunningdale. So I was glad to have a constructive and wide-ranging meeting with South West Railway to raise these issues directly.
SWR are currently working through a Timetable Transformation Programme, looking at some fundamental trade-offs in how services are run. Our discussion covered some big questions, including:
Frequency vs speed: more trains, or faster journeys?
Stopping patterns: more intermediate stops, or more direct services?
Level crossings: balancing safety with train length and frequency
Flexible timetables: should weekday/weekend patterns still apply in an era of flexible working?
Changing travel habits: more leisure travel, less commuting than in the past?
It was a really interesting and open conversation, and I made sure to feed in the concerns and priorities I’ve been hearing from constituents across the constituency.
Public consultation is due later this year, the first major one on these issues since 2004. I’d strongly encourage everyone who uses these services - commuters, families, businesses and leisure travellers - to take part and make your voice heard.
I’ll continue pushing for a rail service that works better for our communities ![]()
