Giving details after the meeting, Jack said:
"Pleased to meet with Elliot Jacobs from UOE, who is the new postmaster of the Post Office's Peascod Street branch in central Windsor, following over 1,850 signatures on my petition to Save Windsor Post Office
Here's what we talked about:
The handover is set for 2nd September. The Post Office will be closed for a few hours that morning, but aside from a change in t-shirt colour, not much will change immediately. Elliot is committed to maintaining a full-service, town centre Post Office - and in fact, hopes to expand both services and opening hours over time.
Looking ahead, there may be some changes over the next year. The new team is considering a redevelopment of the current branch, potentially reconfiguring the space to add retail elements while maintaining FULL Post Office services.
However, rent and business rates at the current site are a real challenge. I’ve taken this away to see whether any support schemes on the rates front might be available.
If a move is considered, it would have to remain within the town centre, both contractually and by the new team’s own commitment to being a, high street retailer.
I made it clear I’d prefer they remain at the current site, but I could support a relocation - ONLY if it stays very central and keeps the full range of Post Office services. Elliot and the Post Office Ltd assured me that would be non-negotiable.
I’ll be keeping a close eye on developments and will continue to advocate for a strong, accessible Post Office at the heart of Windsor."
