The Post Office Ltd have provided a major update on the future of their Peascod Street branch in central Windsor.
In November it was announced that all directly managed Post Office branches across Britain were to be part of a franchising business model transition within the company – placing them at potential risk of closure.
Responding, Windsor MP, Jack Rankin began a petition to keep the branch open, gathering over 1,850 signatures. He formally presented it to Parliament in April.
In their update to Rankin yesterday, the Post Office Ltd confirmed that a franchisee had been found for Windsor Post Office, namely UOE under the Postmaster, Elliot Jacobs. The new franchisee operates 9 Post Office branches across Britain.
The branch will be franchised out of its current location to UOE, and will continue operating from the same premises for now, with no change in services or operating hours. A review of the branch’s long-term location will take place during the current financial year. Any move would likely happen after spring 2026 and include a formal public consultation.
Staff consultations at the Peascod Street branch have now started and may take up to three months.
The local community and stakeholders are being informed of this update via the Post Office Consultation Hub and in-branch posters.
Commenting about the update, Jack Rankin MP said:
“This is good news in the short-term, but the medium-term fight goes on to ensure we keep our branch on Peascod Street.
“Thank you to everyone who signed my petition to Save Windsor Post Office – I’ll keep pushing to make the case of the benefits this location brings to our town centre.”
