Today, the Home Office has confirmed in a letter to Windsor MP, Jack Rankin that the individuals housed at The Manor Hotel in the village of Datchet will be moved out by the end of May 2025.
It comes shortly after Rankin held a Parliamentary debate on the ‘re-opening of asylum hotels’, in which he expressed concerns about the location of the hotel, and previous accounts of antisocial behaviour. The Border Security and Asylum Minister apologised for the twenty-four hours’ notice given to the local community before the migrants were moved in.
Since re-opening as part of the government’s asylum estate at the end of October 2024, Rankin has called on the Home Office to end the use of the hotel. Having written to Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, he twice pressed at Home Office questions in Parliament, also meeting with department officials to emphasise the ill-suitability of the location.
In its letter, the Home Office stated:
“Any Residents currently accommodated in the hotel will be moving to other parts of our asylum estate”
With no further hotels procured in the Windsor constituency, the announcement will see the migrants moved out of Rankin’s constituency.
Commenting, Jack Rankin MP said:
“This is great news for the village of Datchet.
“I know businesspeople and residents locally have rightly been concerned about this large group of unverified single adult males being thrust on their community with next to no notice.
“Having pressed and pressed in Parliament, I am pleased to see these illegal economic migrants will now be moved out of the Windsor constituency entirely.”
